Collaborative research supports psychometric robustness of the Diabetes Health Profile (DHP-18)

Provisional findings from on-going collaborative research with the University of Sheffield to develop a shortened version of the DHP-18 provides further strong evidence to support the construct validity of the instrument.

Developed specifically to assess the psychosocial impact of living with diabetes and comprising just 18 items, new research including factor and regression analysis on a sample of more than 1000 diabetes patients clearly demonstrates both the robustness and stability of the instrument across different patient samples. Dr Keith Meadows author of the DHP-18 said ‘This is very encouraging news indeed. Now we can move forward using Rasch analysis to explore the possibility of developing a shorter version of the DHP-18 that can provide us with same information about the patient but will take less time to complete.’
