Story telling - moving beyond traditional thinking in patient experience and behaviour

Storytelling is second nature to us; we do it every day without thinking. Yet how often for example, do we sit through flatpresentations with statistics telling us how many patients were ‘very satisfied ‘or ‘fairly satisfied’ with their care or treatment.

As a technique story telling is increasingly becoming an addition to the researcher’s tool box where real-life stories can be elicited from patients about how they behave and what they truly feel and where decisions grounded in those experiences can be made. During 2012 DHP Research is undertaking a number of initiatives to enhance the use of storytelling in the drive to get a deeper and more insightful understanding of the patient’s behaviour, including treatment compliance and experiences of the care received.
