Challenging patient questioning
16 January 2012

Taking patient questioning beyond the traditional.

Boring and mundane patient experience surveys can have a significantly negative effect not only on response rates, but also on the quality of information you get from patients. That’s why at DHP Research during 2012 we are planning to look at ways to improve feedback on patient reported experiences and outcomes and in particular, how questions can be redesigned to make them more engaging to answer as well as being linked to more real-world experiences.

Drawing on existing online research, we plan to examine for example, whether questions redesigned to be more game like in nature result in significantly more feedback from patients on their experiences of their health and care in contrast to the more traditional questions and approaches. We also hope to look at how  design and visual stimulation in the answering process can have a positive effect on both the quality and quantity of patients reporting on aspects of their health, outcomes and treatment.
