With more than 20 years experience in the measurement of patient reported outcomes, DHP Research applies a highly rigorous process in the development of a new PRO measures across a range of conditions and diseases. This ensures that our measures meet the highest regulatory requirements in terms of reliability and validity.

The development of all our PRO measures is based on establishing a clearly defined conceptual model and framework and involves four key stages:

1. Qualitative Interviews

Ensuring the PRO measure has demonstrable content validity is essential when developing a new PRO measure. This is achieved through literature reviews in-depth qualitative interviews, focus group and other innovative methodologies such as carousel groups which are conducted with relevant patients and health care professionals. From these interviews statements are identified relating to the experiences and impact of the illness on the lives of the patients. These statements are used to develop draft versions of the measure.

2. Cognitive debriefing

The draft PRO measure is the tested in the field with a different sample of up to 12 patients to assess its face and content validity, comprehensiveness and relevance.

3. Validation survey

The PRO measure is then tested via a full validation survey with patients at points two weeks apart. The results are used to create the final version of the measure. This stage provides information to enable examination of the psychometric properties of the measure as well as evaluate administrative and respondent burden.

4. Assessment of the PRO measurement properties

The psychometric properties of the PRO measure are carefully assessed including test-retest reliability, internal consistency and construct validity, identify meaningful score differences.

5. Development of patient reported outcomes (PRO)measures

With more than 20 years experience in the measurement of patient reported outcomes, DHP Research applies a highly rigorous process in the development of a new PRO measures across a range of conditions and diseases. This ensures that our measures meet the highest regulatory requirements in terms of reliability and validity.

All the PRO measures developed by DHP Research reflect the views of and the language used by patients and are easy to administer, complete and score.
